Responsibilities

Job description

Senior podiatrist post in offender health at HMP Erlestoke, run by Partnering Health Ltd on a part-time contract of about six and a half hours a week. The work covers assessing and treating people held in prison, from diagnosis and treatment planning through to nail surgery, biomechanics, wound care and diabetes care, with a personal caseload and waiting lists managed alongside the prison. The post holder works without close supervision and teaches and advises other members of the multidisciplinary team. Applicants need HCPC and SOCAP registration and at least three years' post-graduate experience, including lone working.

What the job involves

• Manage own clinical caseload, including waiting lists, in partnership with the HMP site
• Assess patients, including complex presentations, and formulate individualised management and treatment plans
• Deliver podiatry treatments including nail surgery, MSK and biomechanics, wound care, diabetes care and routine care
• Hold professional and legal accountability for own work and a designated caseload, prioritising clinical need
• Assess capacity and gain valid informed consent, working within the legal framework for patients who lack capacity
• Advise and instruct patients and carers on self-care and explain conditions clearly
• Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to the multidisciplinary team
• Keep accurate records and send reports and letters to the appropriate bodies
• Maintain own CPD and take part in the CPD programme, including presentations and training
• Take part in monthly data collection, audit, evidence-based practice projects and outcome measures
• Be responsible for equipment used in podiatry, including competence to use it, and follow health and safety policy
• Follow company policies, RCPod, HCPC and Department of Health guidance, and report accidents promptly
