Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust seeks HCPC registered Band 5 podiatrists to join the Trafford Local Care Organisation. You will work across community health centres, patients' homes and residential care settings, developing podiatry skills in a proactive, supportive team.

The role covers high‑risk foot care, wound management, biomechanics, podopaediatrics and nail surgery, with opportunities to contribute to audit and service improvements, and to participate in the Diabetic Foot MDT.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) Podiatry is required.
• HCPC registration is required in order to practice.
• Certificate in local anaesthesia is desirable.
• Evidence of CPD demonstrates ongoing professional development.
• Membership of professional body is desirable.
• IT qualification (ECDL) may be needed for documentation and records.

Responsibilities

• To work in clinics, health centres, residential and nursing homes, day centres, in the patient's own home and on occasion in the acute sector as required.
• To actively manage patient treatment programmes in line with care planning and discharge guidelines.
• With the ability to identify when patients require intervention from other professionals by following referral pathways.
• To conduct nail surgery and undertake a minimum of 20 procedures under supervision if not proficient.
• To arrange for podiatry orthoses, pressure relieving insoles and shoe inserts where appropriate.
• To plan day-to-day workloads for clinics, home visits and visits to residential/nursing homes.
• To provide cover for other podiatrists at short notice or during absences.
• Complete all administrative duties associated with the post.
• Any other duties as required by the department.

Within the Trafford Local Care Organisation (TLCO) an opportunity has arisen to recruit permanent full time HCPC registered Band 5 podiatrists. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated podiatrists to join our proactive and supportive team, where you will be able to develop your podiatry skills.

The posts will be ideally suited to newly qualified or experienced podiatrists alike. The Trafford Podiatry Service operates out of community health centres across the patch and delivers care to patients in their own homes and residential care.

We offer an all age service where there are opportunities to develop skills in High Risk Foot Management, Wound management, Biomechanics, Podo-paediatrics and Nail Surgery. The podiatry team supports the secondary Care Diabetic Foot Multidisciplinary Team and provides inpatient management to patients in Trafford General Hospital.

A car driver is essential.

Main duties of the job

To work in clinics, health centres, residential and nursing homes, day centres, in the patient's own home and on occasion in the acute sector as required.

With the ability to use the decision making process to identify when patients require the intervention of other professional and/or departmental specialist areas by following agreed referral pathways

To conduct nail surgery and undertake a minimum of 20 procedures under supervision if not already proficient in this procedure

To arrange for the provision of podiatry orthoses, pressure relieving insoles and shoe inserts where appropriate.

To be responsible for the day to day planning of personal workloads for clinics, for the completion of home visits and for visits to residential and nursing homes

To be flexible and provide cover for other podiatrists at short notice or during periods of absence

Complete all necessary administrative duties associated with the post.

What is a DBS Check?

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
