Job summary

Five Education are seeking a patient, compassionate Teaching Assistant to support learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) at a secondary school in Bristol. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support, help with communication, personal development and daily needs, and work closely with teachers and SENDCo.

Experience in care is welcomed; no teaching background required if you have a caring nature and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in care, support work, healthcare, education, or a similar role is beneficial.
• A patient, compassionate and nurturing approach to supporting young people with complex needs.
• Understanding of or willingness to learn about profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
• Confidence in providing personal care while maintaining pupils' dignity and promoting independence.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to work with teaching staff and professionals.
• Genuine commitment to helping young people feel safe, respected and included to reach their potential.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to secondary-aged learners with PMLD and help them access learning.
• Support pupils with communication, sensory engagement, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
• Assist with personal care and day-to-day needs where required, maintaining dignity and independence.
• Build trusting relationships with learners, recognising their communication styles and needs.
• Work with teachers, SENDCo and support staff to deliver personalised care and learning strategies.
• Help maintain a safe, calm and inclusive environment where learners feel secure and valued.
