Job summary

CER Education are recruiting for a compassionate and dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in St Albans. Responsibilities

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex needs.
  • Assisting students with daily learning activities and sensory-based educational programmes.
  • Supporting communication through methods such as Makaton, PECS and other alternative communication strategies.
  • Assisting with personal care, feeding and mobility needs where required.
  • Supporting students during therapy sessions and sensory activities.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social interaction.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and families.
  • Monitoring and recording progress against individual learning targets.
  • Creating a safe, positive and engaging learning environment for all pupils.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and supporting students' emotional wellbeing.
  • Supporting students with physical needs and ensuring they can access learning in a safe and meaningful way.

The Role

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to pupils with a range of profound and multiple learning disabilities, helping them participate in learning activities and achieve meaningful outcomes both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with personal care and moving and handling.
  • Understanding of Makaton, PECS or alternative communication systems.
  • Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant care/support qualification.
