Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated PMLD Class Teacher for a specialist SEND school in the Benfleet area. The role is full-time and permanent, starting January 2027, with a salary between £34,069 and £46,940 per year.

You will work with a classroom team, specialists and families to deliver highly personalised, sensory-led learning for pupils with complex needs. Applicants may be experienced SEND teachers or ECTs with the right attitude.

Qualifications

• QTS / Qualified Teacher Status is required.
• Experience in SEND or PMLD is desirable.
• Strong ability to differentiate and individualise learning.
• Able to lead and support classroom staff.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Planning and delivering engaging, sensory-rich and highly personalised lessons
• Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs
• Leading and supporting a classroom team of Learning Support Assistants
• Adapting teaching approaches to meet EHCP outcomes
• Supporting pupils with communication, interaction and engagement
• Working with therapists and other specialist staff
• Monitoring and recording pupil progress and milestones
• Building positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers
• Contributing to Annual Reviews and pupil development meetings
• Maintaining safeguarding, health and safety and pupil wellbeing

Are you a passionate and creative Teacher with experience supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties / PMLD?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist SEND school in the Benfleet area that is looking to appoint a dedicated PMLD Class Teacher on a full-time, permanent basis from January 2027.

The school supports pupils with a range of complex learning and additional needs and places a strong emphasis on personalised learning, communication and holistic development. The successful Teacher will work closely with Learning Support Assistants, therapists, healthcare professionals and families to ensure each pupil receives the individual support they require.

The role would suit an experienced SEND Teacher or a mainstream Teacher who has a genuine passion for working with pupils with complex needs. Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and ECTs with the right attitude and enthusiasm for specialist education.

The successful PMLD Class Teacher will be responsible for:

• Planning and delivering engaging, sensory-rich and highly personalised lessons
• Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs
• Leading and supporting a classroom team of Learning Support Assistants
• Adapting teaching approaches to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plan / EHCP outcomes
• Supporting pupils with communication, interaction and engagement
• Working collaboratively with therapists, healthcare professionals and other specialist staff
• Monitoring and recording pupil progress, including small but meaningful developmental achievements
• Building positive relationships with pupils, parents and carers
• Contributing to Annual Reviews and wider pupil development meetings
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and pupil wellbeing

The ideal PMLD Class Teacher will have:

• QTS / Qualified Teacher Status
• Experience within SEND, PMLD, SLD or another specialist education setting is desirable
• A strong understanding of differentiated and individualised learning
• Confidence working with pupils with complex learning and communication needs
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A patient, nurturing and resilient approach
• The ability to lead and support classroom support staff effectively
• A genuine passion for helping pupils with SEND reach their individual potential
