Job summary

Rise Technical Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Plumbing & Gas Trainer in Wigan to deliver apprenticeship programmes up to Level 3. The role blends practical workshop sessions with classroom-based training, drawing on real-world installation, maintenance, fault-finding and safe working practices.

Are you an experienced Plumbing & Gas Engineer looking to move away from full-time site work and into training?

Do you want to use your industry experience to develop the next generation of Plumbing & Gas professionals while gaining recognised teaching qualifications and enjoying excellent benefits?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established Further Education provider within its Construction and Building Services department. You'll work with apprentices developing the practical skills, technical knowledge and professional standards they need to build successful careers within the Plumbing & Gas industry.

As a Plumbing & Gas Trainer, you'll deliver apprenticeship programmes primarily up to Level 3 through a mixture of practical workshop and classroom-based training. You'll use your real-world experience to bring installation, maintenance, fault‑finding, regulations and safe working practices to life, while preparing learners for the expectations of employers and the changing demands of the industry.

The ideal candidate will have significant Plumbing & Gas industry experience, occupational competence to Level 3 or equivalent, and current Gas Safe registration. Previous teaching experience is desirable but not essential, as full support can be provided to help experienced industry professionals transition into education and work towards a recognised teaching qualification.

The role:

• Deliver Plumbing & Gas apprenticeship programmes, primarily up to Level 3.
• Deliver a mixture of practical workshop and classroom‑based theory sessions.
• Train learners across installation, maintenance, fault‑finding and safe working practices.
• Develop apprentices' technical skills, professional behaviours and industry knowledge.
• Bring current Gas Safe requirements, regulations and employer expectations into training.
• Assess learner progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.
• Maintain accurate assessment, progress and learner records.
• Work closely with employers and colleagues to support high‑quality apprenticeship delivery.
• Support learners with progression, confidence and preparation for employment.
• Incorporate sustainability, low‑carbon heating and emerging technologies into learning.
• Support Open Evenings, recruitment activities and employer engagement where required.
• Full‑time permanent position, 37 hours per week.
• Support provided to gain a recognised teaching qualification.

The person:

• Experienced Plumbing & Gas Engineer or Building Services professional.
• Occupational competence in Plumbing & Gas to Level 3 or equivalent.
• Current Gas Safe registration essential.
• Significant industry experience across installation, maintenance or related Plumbing & Gas work.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of regulations, industry standards and health & safety requirements.
• Experience training, mentoring, supervising or supporting apprentices or colleagues beneficial.
• Teaching qualification desirable but not essential.
• Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification.
• Level 2 English and Maths.
• Air Source Heat Pump, Ground Source Heat Pump or low‑carbon heating experience highly desirable.
• Strong communication and practical demonstration skills.
• Patient, supportive and confident maintaining high standards.
• Strong organisation and accurate record‑keeping skills.
• Committed to safeguarding, inclusion and learner success.
• Able to work across College sites and employer locations when required.
• Passionate about passing on industry knowledge and preparing apprentices for the future of the Plumbing & Gas sector.
