You know what good plumbing and gas work looks like. Now help apprentices build the skill, confidence and standards to do it well.
Plumbing and gas are changing. Learners still need strong practical skills, safe working habits and a clear understanding of installation, maintenance and fault-finding. But they also need to understand where the industry is heading, including low-carbon heating, sustainability and new technologies.
As our Plumbing and Gas Lecturer, you’ll help apprentices build that foundation.
You’ll teach Plumbing and Gas apprenticeship programmes, mainly up to Level 3, bringing your industry knowledge into the classroom and workshop. You’ll help learners understand the standards expected by employers, the importance of safe and compliant work, and the professional behaviours that matter on site and with customers.
This role is for someone with strong occupational competence and current Gas Safe registration. You may already be an experienced lecturer, or you may be an industry professional who has trained, supervised or supported others and is ready to move into teaching.
What matters is that you can explain the trade clearly, set high standards and help apprentices develop the skills they need for work, progression and the future of the industry.
Our lecturers help students and apprentices reach their full potential.
At Wigan & Leigh College, you’ll be part of a Construction and Building Services team preparing learners for real careers in a sector that matters to our region. You’ll help apprentices develop the technical skill, confidence and professional standards employers expect, while supporting them to understand how the industry is changing.
This is a role where your experience has real value.
You’ll see learners move from uncertainty to competence. You’ll help them understand why safe working matters. You’ll support them as they develop the habits and knowledge that will shape their careers.
You’ll also join a college that invests in people and technical education. Whether you are already teaching or moving from industry into education, we’ll support your development and help you build confidence in the classroom and workshop.
You may also be eligible for a government levelling-up payment of £2,000 to £6,000 if you are in your first five years of further education teaching and spend at least 50% of your time teaching eligible Level 3 or below courses, including construction.
