Job description

Mountjoy Ltd is contracted to the Isle of Wight Council, Vectis Housing Association, Wetherspoons, RNLI and other clients to provide day-to-day repairs and planned maintenance to various buildings across the Isle of Wight.

We are seeking a conscientious and enthusiastic plumber to work as part of a team, with a can-do attitude and a highly flexible approach to support the delivery of high-quality repairs and maintenance works to domestic and commercial properties.

The individual must maintain a professional appearance and attitude and be always polite and courteous. The tradesperson must have relevant qualifications with broad commercial and domestic experience in their core trade. Additional experience and capability to complete tasks outside their core competency is preferred. It is a further requirement that all operatives must pass an enhanced DBS check.

In this position, you will carry out a wide variety of plumbing repairs and planned work in occupied and unoccupied residential properties, corporate, and civic buildings. The work will include, but is not limited to, reactive maintenance repairs, bathroom refurbishments, and commercial plumbing. The ability to carry out ceramic wall tiling and minor decorative and carpentry works as part of an upgrade is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Diagnose and rectify faults within core and other trades related repair requests.
2. Ensure that the quality of work meets the highest possible standards at all times.
3. Support all trades to deliver a professional and safe maintenance and repairs service.
4. Respond swiftly to all emergency situations and resolve them efficiently.
5. Keep the customer/office up to date with progress.
6. Undertake all work efficiently and cost-effectively, minimising non-productive time wherever possible.
7. Apply applicable Health & Safety rules in all you do, using risk assessments, method statements, and PPE when needed.
8. Maintain tools, plant, and equipment in a safe, clean, and workable condition.
9. Use your PDA to maintain accurate records of works undertaken with photographic evidence as necessary, reporting any difficulties encountered to your Supervisor or the Resource Controller.
10. Ask your Supervisor for assistance when required.
11. Be willing to work out of hours to the requirements of the client and participate in the call-out rota.
12. Maintain your company vehicle in a clean and tidy condition and report any defects to the Supervisor in a timely manner.

SKILLS REQUIRED

1. Trained to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent for a minimum of 7 years or more.
2. Fully competent in all aspects of bathroom installations including tiling.
3. Familiar and confident with the use of a press gun.
4. Familiar and confident with the use of a pipe freezing kit.
5. Competent and willing to work with rainwater goods as and when required.
6. Able to use knowledge and judgement to make the right decisions and find effective solutions to problems.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Have a full driving licence.
2. An Enhanced DBS check is required before commencement of role.

EXPERIENCE

1. 7 or more years’ experience in your trade.
2. 3 or more years working in Building, Maintenance, and Educational environment is preferred but not essential.
3. 3 or more years’ experience in bathroom installations.
4. Comfortable with basic carpentry to support with limited reactive maintenance works.
