Plumber
Location: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary, Dumfries, DG2 8PS
Employment Type: Full time - 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary: £31,000 - £34,000 depending on experience plus basic Serco benefits
Role Overview
Responsible for completing planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and remedial repairs on plumbing services and associated equipment to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all tasks.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance on storage tanks, sanitary ware, fixtures, fittings, domestic hot and cold-water systems, pipework, drainage, and water treatment systems, including pumps and valves.
- Monitor, maintain, and record water treatment and water systems, including topping-up, flushing, adjusting, and repairing as needed.
- Assist in monitoring water consumption, collecting data, and updating records.
- Manage stock and ordering of plumbing supplies and consumables.
- Collaborate effectively with electrical, mechanical, and civil trade staff.
- Maintain knowledge of safe and efficient work practices.
- Participate in overtime, shift work, and out-of-hours work to ensure continuous operation of essential systems.
- Work independently or within a team under the supervision of the Senior Technician.
- Engage in health, safety, and risk management activities, including risk assessments.
- Use and promote safe working practices with all plant and equipment, including subcontractors and third parties.
- Contribute to project work, including refurbishments and new installations.
- Maintain effective communication with management, colleagues, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Promote a strong HSQE and information security culture within the department.
- Perform other duties as assigned by line management.
Candidate Requirements
Technical Skills
- Minimum three years’ experience as a plumber in commercial or healthcare facilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of plumbing systems and equipment.
Knowledge & Attributes
- Proficient in English, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently with initiative.
- Physically fit, conscientious, and customer-focused.
- Understanding of planned and preventative maintenance principles.
- Innovative thinker capable of working under tight deadlines.
Qualifications
Relevant and recognized qualifications in plumbing or equivalent.
