Job summary

Pontnewydd Playgroup and Wrap Around is seeking a Playgroup Assistant to support the Person in Charge in delivering safe, engaging play for all children. You will help plan activities, supervise sessions from 8:45 to 3:15, and encourage parent involvement while following safeguarding and equal opportunities policies.

The role requires CCLD Level 3 or equivalent, First Aid, Food Hygiene, and safeguarding training, with prior Early Years experience preferred.

Qualifications

• CCLD Level 3 or equivalent is required.
• First Aid, Food Hygiene and Safeguarding training completed.
• Experience in an Early Years setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the lead to provide safe, stimulating group play for all children.
• Assist with planning, preparing and taking part in activities.
• Encourage listening, participation and safety among children.
• Attend staff meetings and help implement the curriculum.
• Encourage parental involvement.
• Attend meetings/courses as requested by the lead.
• Inform the lead of issues needing attention or repairs.
• Maintain confidentiality about children and families.
• Help with regular observations of children and activities.
• Adhere to the group’s equal opportunities policy.
• Ensure children are supervised at all times.
• Work in line with Flying Start guidance.

Job Title:Playgroup Assistant.

Responsible to:The Person in Charge of the playgroup.

Responsible for:All children attending the group.

Purpose of job:To assist the Person in Charge with the playgroup sessions to ensure safe, stimulating play, to provide for the needs of ALL children.

Main Duties:

1. Support the Person in Charge to provide safe, stimulating group play to meet the social, linguistic, creative, physical, imaginative and emotional needs of each child.

2. Help prepare, plan, provide and take part in all the groups activities. Also to clear away afterwards

3. Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children.

4. Attend staff meetings and help prepare and implement a curriculum for the group.

5. Encourage parental involvement.

6. Attend relevant meetings and courses as requested by the Person in Charge.

7. Advise the Person in Charge of any matter requiring attention such as concerns about a child, or equipment needing repair or replacement.

8. Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is learnt as part of the job.

9. Assist with regular observations of children and activities.

10. Adhere to and help to implement the group’s equal opportunities policy.

11. Ensure the children are supervised at all times.

12. Work to the WAG guidance for Flying Start.

Previous knowledge.

• Development of under fives.
• Working in an Early years setting.

Qualifications

• CCLD level 3 (or equivalent).
• First aid, food hygiene and safeguarding courses.

Skills.

• Be able to communicate and maintain friendly relationships with children, parents and staff.
• Be able to work on own initiative and to work within a team.
• Be prepared to seek guidance when necessary.
