The Role:

The Club is seeking a Player Care Manager to manage the well-being of the men's first-team players, providing comprehensive support both on and off the field, ensuring smooth integration into the club, and helping maintain a healthy work-life balance for optimal performance.

Job Purpose:

To oversee the welfare and well-being of the men's first-team players, ensuring they receive exceptional support both on and off the field, helping them settle into their roles at the club, and maintain a healthy work-life balance to perform at the highest level.

About You

  • Manage all aspects of player care for the men’s first-team squad, ensuring players’ needs are met both professionally and personally
  • Oversee player relocation, housing, and settling-in services for first team players and their families
  • Coordinate player health, lifestyle, and well-being services, ensuring support for physical, mental, and emotional health
  • Plan and deliver individualized support for players' personal development, including career progression advice, education, and post-retirement planning
  • Administer player travel and logistics, including transportation arrangements, accommodation, and necessary documents for international travel and matches
  • Devise programs to support players’ integration into the community and foster positive relationships with club staff, sponsors, and fans
  • Support players in managing media and public relations interactions, ensuring they have the tools to navigate external pressures
  • The management of external contractors utilized by players
  • Work in conjunction and support the football administration team
  • Develop strong relationships with players and their families to understand their personal needs and create a supportive environment
  • Help manage resources dedicated to player care, ensuring cost-efficiency and effective service delivery
  • Manage any safeguarding requirements related to players and their families, working closely with relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the medical, performance, and coaching staff to ensure players’ holistic development is supported both on and off the field
  • Due to the nature of the role, some out-of-office hours work may be required, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and match days

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a player care or welfare role, ideally within professional football or a similar high-performance environment
  • Experience in managing and supporting high-profile individuals in both personal and professional capacities
  • A comprehensive understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional needs of professional athletes
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with players, families, and staff
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment
  • Possess the ability to effectively manage individuals in challenging and high-pressure situations
  • Capable of building rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds and nationalities
  • An attentive listener with the ability to connect and foster strong relationships with family members
  • A thorough understanding of the processes involved in moving in and setting up a home environment
  • A fundamental understanding of owning and operating a motor vehicle

Desirable:

  • A background in sports psychology, welfare, or coaching would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the unique challenges faced by international players adapting to life in the UK
  • Experience with relocation services, travel management, or contract negotiations is a plus
  • Proven experience in managing and leading teams effectively
  • Full UK driving license
  • Proficiency in additional languages is preferred
