Job summary

Tesco seeks a Platform Technical Lead to own the platform's design, build, operation and evolution, reporting to the Head Of System Engineering. You will ensure technical integrity in production and partner with the Platform Product Lead to translate product outcomes into engineering delivery.

Role focuses on OpenShift at scale, GitOps delivery with Argo CD, multi-cluster management, and automation to reduce toil, while delivering a robust, product-focused platform for Tesco engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Proven technical leadership of a platform or product engineering team, owning design decisions and production delivery.
• Design authority: writing ADRs, running reviews, and upholding standards without bottlenecks.
• Treats the platform as a product and measures consumption and integration experience.
• Production ownership: accountable for SLOs, incident response and post-incident learning.
• Coaches engineers, validates skill assessments against production work, and fosters succession.

Responsibilities

• Own the platform design and technical roadmap, author ADRs, and enforce standards.
• Own target architecture across full stack: OpenShift, GitOps, multi-cluster management, observability.
• Develop and maintain DevOps practices within the Platform Team and automate toil.
• Ensure platform interfaces and APIs meet product needs and provide reliable production support.
