Job summary

Mistral AI is seeking a Research Engineer for the Orchestral team to help build the agentic platform used to train and evaluate models. You will own significant pieces end to end, from design to production, focusing on a distributed RL system and tooling for researchers.

We value strong Python skills, a builder mindset, and experience delivering robust, scalable software. You will collaborate across a distributed team across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.

• Strong Python skills and software-design instincts.
• Experience building distributed systems at scale with reliability in mind.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the core of the Orchestral platform: library, abstractions and tooling for training and evaluating models.
• Evolve rollout engine with long-running tasks and subagents.
• Run Orchestral as a production system ensuring workloads run reliably at scale.
• Improve data and job flow through the platform: scheduling, routing and request handling.
• Treat researchers as users and translate their needs into shared tooling.
• Raise engineering quality across the platform: testing, code reviews, CI/CD, observability and docs.
• Contribute to open-source rollout-engine and agent-infrastructure projects where beneficial.
