Job summary

Simpro Group in Leeds is seeking a Platform Engineer/DBRE to own SQL Server environments, lead upgrades, and ensure high availability. You will automate deployments, manage security and RBAC, and contribute to system architecture while maintaining comprehensive docs.

The role requires 3+ years in related roles, deep SQL Server expertise, and AWS familiarity. Office-based position with in-house infra collaboration and on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in platform engineering, database administration/engineering, or DBRE roles.
• Deep hands-on knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server architecture, high availability (AlwaysOn/AGs), performance tuning, and disaster recovery.
• Cloud computing experience with AWS preferred.
• Automation & Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, Node.js, Go, PHP, or Perl.
• Understanding of networking concepts (VPCs, DNS, load balancing) and automated deployment tools.

Responsibilities

• Own design, strategy, patching, and maintenance of all SQL Server environments.
• Lead SQL Server upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Maintain high platform availability and performance; collaborate on automations via CI/CD.
• Develop and maintain database automation scripts to reduce toil.
• Manage change control, RBAC, and security standards across DBs and platforms.
• Contribute to architecture evaluations and maintain documentation in developer portal.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to maintain SLA/SLOs.
