Job summary

Spreadex Limited in St Albans is seeking a talented Platform Engineer to join our Platform Team. You will build and operate the platform that underpins our award-winning trading platforms and the tools that support software engineers to develop, test and deploy applications.

We work with AWS, Linux, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, HAProxy, Consul, Grafana and OpenSearch, plus Terraform and more. Our stack includes C#/.NET, Node.js and Python, with Azure DevOps Pipelines and ArgoCD.

Qualifications

• Experience in a software engineering role (ideally C#/.NET, but also Python, Node.js, Powershell or Bash)
• Experience with cloud (ideally AWS) and infrastructure as code (ideally Terraform)
• Strong communication skills
• Hands-on experience of AI tools and knowledge of AI practices
• Desirable: Kubernetes and related technologies (Linux/Docker)
• Desirable: Observability and monitoring tools
• Desirable: Security principles and best practices
• Desirable: Enthusiasm to learn different technologies and adapt to evolving industry

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the platform that underpins the trading platforms and the tools that support engineers to develop, test and deploy applications
• Contribute to AI-enabled tooling and processes to improve developer workflows
• Work with technologies including AWS, Linux, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, HAProxy, Consul, Grafana, OpenSearch, Terraform and more
• Collaborate with software engineers and platform team to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure

Spreadex has been operating for 25 years as a sports and financial spread betting provider. The business expanded to offer fixed odds betting in 2010 and CFD trading in 2017. Spreadex is the only global operator to offer all these services under one brand.

After 25 years of sustained profits, we’re now looking to take the next step and materially grow the business in the next 5 years on both the sports and financials side. Our ambitious plans are being supported by a material increase in our Marketing Budget and our expansion into Denmark.

This opening provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to join a growing team in a vibrant office based in St Albans, just outside London. The role will be a mix of working from the office and working from home.

Our office is based in St Albans, Hertfordshire with a fast and simple commute from London and the surrounding area:

• 20 minutes from London St Pancras/Kings Cross by direct train

• Regular services also run from Farringdon, City Thameslink, and Blackfriars

• Easy access from the M1, A1(M), and M25

ABOUT THE POSITION

We're looking for a talented Platform Engineer to join our Platform Team at Spreadex.

You will be responsible for building and operating the platform that underpins our award-winning trading platforms, alongside the tools and services that support the efficient workflows of our Software Engineers, allowing them to develop, build, test and deploy applications.

We embrace the opportunities enabled by AI and are looking to improve our tools and processes to better utilise and support our developers and AI agents. The Platform Team play a central role in designing and developing these tools.

We use a diverse range of technologies to operate the platform — AWS, Linux, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis/Valkey, HAProxy, Consul, Grafana, OpenSearch, Terraform and more.

We also use a wide range of development tools/languages — C#/.NET, Node.js, Python, Azure DevOps Pipelines, ArgoCD

ABOUT YOU

Required:

• Experience in a software engineering role (ideally C#/.NET, but also Python, Node.js, Powershell or Bash)

• Experience with cloud (ideally AWS) and infrastructure as code (ideally Terraform)

• Strong communication skills

• Hands-on experience of AI tools and knowledge of AI practices

Desirable:

• Experience with Kubernetes and related technologies (Linux/Docker)

• Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools

• Understanding of security principles and best practices

• An enthusiasm to learn different technologies and adapt to an evolving industry
