Job Title: Platform Engineer (DV Clearance Required)

Due to the sensitive nature of this role you will be required to have DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum will be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

In your role as a Platform Specialist, you’ll work closely with customers and bring your deep technical expertise to bear on interesting and challenging problems. You will be a technical expert, proposing and designing innovative solutions, solving real-world issues for customers, and leading the delivery in an agile manner. You will engage directly with the customer to build exactly what they need in terms of time, cost, and quality. You will have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of technologies, hardware, and DevOps practices. The solutions you will create will utilise the latest technologies, demonstrate innovation and thought leadership, and provide excellent outcomes for customers.

What you’ll do:

1. Own and contribute to the delivery of specific components and tasks within projects.
2. Engage and foster relationships with the customer, suppliers, professional networks, and subject matter experts.
3. Actively contribute to team knowledge sharing, mentoring, and coaching.
4. Report to both a project manager and a team lead, providing estimates for work and delivery dates.
5. Own high-level design, architectures, and visions for platforms that can deliver against customer requirements.
6. Be hands-on in the design, development, and testing of solutions, including system specification, technology selection, data model creation, implementation, configuration, and testing.
7. Participate in end-to-end technical delivery, understanding project progress.
8. Work with datasets and platforms including on-premises, cloud, or hybrid models.
9. Ensure security requirements are met with the solutions created.

What you'll bring:

1. Self-driven with the ability to quickly learn new technologies through independent research.
2. Excellent problem-solving skills, capable of working through issues logically and documenting solutions.
3. In-depth knowledge of the Linux Operating System.
4. Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools and Configuration Management (e.g., Puppet, Ansible, Terraform).
5. Understanding of network architecture: routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs.
6. Experience in building and deploying bare-metal and virtual systems using automated processes (e.g., Anaconda Kickstart, RedHat Satellite/Foreman).
7. Knowledge of system monitoring, metrics, logging, and audit technologies.
8. Scripting skills, particularly in Python.
9. Experience leading tasks in a DevOps environment.
10. Knowledge of big data technologies.
11. Experience with continuous improvement and process optimization.
