Job summary

NRL is seeking experienced Platers for the Hinkley Point C project in Somerset. This permanent role offers long-term security, competitive benefits, and the chance to contribute to one of the UK’s largest infrastructure programmes.

Ideal candidates have proven plating and assembly experience in safety-critical settings. Responsibilities include interpreting drawings, fabricating structural steel, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Qualified via NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or time-served (minimum 5 years’ verified experience in your trade).
  • Holder of a valid CCNSG Safety Passport or willingness to obtain one.
  • Proven experience in fabrication and assembly within a high-risk or regulated environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications to fabricate and assemble structural steel and components accurately.
  • Mark out, cut, shape, and prepare metalwork to exact tolerances using appropriate methods and tools.
  • Assemble and install fabricated components to meet project schedules and quality requirements.
  • Conduct inspections to verify compliance with safety and technical standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of work completed for quality assurance purposes.
  • Support a positive safety culture by participating in toolbox talks, pre-job briefs, and hazard reporting.

Job Title - Plater Summary

We’re looking for experienced Platers to work on the prestigious Hinkley Point C nuclear new build project in Somerset. This is a permanent opportunity offering long-term job security, excellent benefits, and the chance to be part of one of the UK’s largest infrastructure programmes. Ideal for skilled fabricators with proven experience in plating and assembly within high-spec, safety-critical environments.

Salary

Rates in line with the ECSA agreement with overtime premiums.

Location and Working Pattern
  • Hinkley Point C, Somerset - fully site-based
  • Monday-Thursday: 07:00-17:00
  • Friday-Sunday: 06:45-15:13
  • 10 days on / 4 days off rotation
  • Approx. 50 hours per week + overtime options
  • Accommodation allowance and retainers available
  • Additional daily bus and park-and-ride allowance provided

  • Keep work areas clean, safe, and well-organised at all times
  • Liaise with supervisors, QA/QC teams, and other trades to resolve technical queries effectively
Must-have Requirements
