Plastic Surgery Consultant with special interest in Head & Neck Cancer

The Department of Plastic Surgery is seeking a substantive Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently looking to expand and develop its services and to keep the service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence, so are looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team.

The Department offers a wide range of services to patients from lower leg trauma reconstruction to post-cancer breast and head and neck reconstruction. The new consultant will help run and develop these services across the St Thomas\' site as well as joining a well-established Head and Neck Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).

The Head and Neck surgical team currently consists of 4 ENT / Head and Neck surgeons, 3 Oral Maxillo-Facial Surgeons and 3 Plastic Surgeons. In addition, the MDT has dedicated members including 2 Clinical Oncologists, 3 Restorative Dentists, 4 Pathologists, 4 Dieticians, 3 Speech Therapists, 2 Cancer Specialist Nurses, 1 Tracheostomy Clinical Nurse Specialist and an MDT Coordinator.

We are looking for an outstanding individual who has completed a Head and Neck Fellowship to further expand and develop the head & neck MDT, and to develop a de novo secondary complex reconstructive service.

There is close working with King\'s College Hospital, where neuroscience services are based.

The role is for an 8 PA position

Main duties of the job

To provide a Plastic Surgery service in conjunction with colleagues

The post holder will have a specialist expertise in head and neck micro-surgery

The post holder will participate in the Consultant on-call rota

To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care

To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training

To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development, including support of satellite sites across London

To assist in the future development of the Plastic Surgery department including development of a complex secondary facial reconstructive service

Job responsibilities

  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training
  • Publications in at least one specialist field
  • Evidence of original research and application into head and neck oncology
  • A demonstrable aptitude for pursuing research goals
