Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK is seeking a Plant Operative / Batching Plant Operator to join our busy concrete/mortar operation. You will safely run the batching plant, ensuring quality output and timely deliveries while maintaining high safety and environmental standards.

You’ll liaise with customers and internal teams, perform inspections, manage materials, and keep the site clean. Training is provided; prior experience in construction materials helps, but is not essential.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
• Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental responsibilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, housekeeping and customer service.
• Training can be provided for the right candidate with relevant experience in construction materials or industrial operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the batching plant to ensure accurate production of concrete and mortar.
• Liaise with customers, plant teams, and the Order Office to meet production and delivery needs.
• Load materials and operate plant equipment, including FEL where trained.
• Carry out routine inspections, maintenance checks and report defects promptly.
• Maintain stock levels and perform regular visual stock checks of raw materials.
• Keep site, plant and equipment clean and well-presented.
• Support environmental compliance by managing waste and dust in line with procedures.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure site safety requirements are followed by all personnel.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve plant performance and efficiency.
