Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK is seeking a hands-on Plant Operative to join our Asphalt team at Groby. You’ll operate plant machinery, support start-up/shut-downs, and contribute to safe, efficient production of materials used for UK roads and infrastructure.

You’ll be part of a safety-first team focused on quality and continuous improvement, with opportunities to develop skills and gain additional plant qualifications across a leading international business.

Qualifications

• Experience operating plant machinery within quarry, asphalt, construction, manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to identify issues and take appropriate action.
• Flexible and reliable approach to work.
• Good attention to detail and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate both static and mobile plant equipment safely and efficiently.
• Manage asphalt plant start-up and shut-down procedures.
• Monitor plant performance and maximise production output while maintaining quality standards.
• Plan daily production schedules based on customer requirements and operational capabilities.
• Carry out routine inspections and operational checks across the plant.
• Operate mobile plant equipment, including Front-End Loaders and dumpers.
• Load plant feed materials and support mineral movement across the site.
• Complete daily inspection records and maintain documentation.
• Report plant defects, faults and maintenance requirements promptly.
• Carry out routine maintenance activities within your competence.
• Support refuelling, greasing and cleaning on plant and equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Contributing to a safe working environment by identifying and reporting hazards and near misses.
• You may also support nearby Heidelberg Materials sites when required, providing variety and opportunities to broaden your experience.

What We’re Looking For

Desirable Qualifications

• EPIC certification for mobile plant operation.
• NVQ Level 2 in Mobile Plant Operations.
• Experience operating Front-End Loaders, dumpers, or other heavy plant equipment.
• Knowledge of quarrying, asphalt, or industrial production processes.
