Job summary

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a hands-on Plant Operative to join the Asphalt team at Groby. You will safely operate static and mobile plant equipment, manage start-up and shut-down procedures, and help maximise production while maintaining quality.

You’ll plan daily production, conduct inspections, and keep detailed records to support reliable operations. We value safety, continuous improvement, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must hold EPIC certification or NVQ Level 2 in mobile plant operations.
• Experience operating asphalt/plant machinery in industrial settings.
• Knowledge of safety, reporting, and documentation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate static and mobile plant equipment safely and efficiently.
• Manage start-up/shut-down procedures and monitor performance.
• Plan daily production schedules based on needs and capabilities.
• Carry out inspections, maintenance, and housekeeping tasks.
• Record keeping and reporting of defects or faults promptly.
• Support refuelling, greasing and cleaning activities.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Plant Operative to join our Asphalt team. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll be involved in the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt plant, helping to produce the materials used to build and maintain the UK's roads, infrastructure, and communities.

What You'll Be Doing

• Operating both static and mobile plant equipment safely and efficiently.
• Managing asphalt plant start-up and shut-down procedures.
• Monitoring plant performance and maximising production output while maintaining quality standards.
• Planning daily production schedules based on customer requirements and operational capabilities.
• Carrying out routine inspections and operational checks across the plant.
• Operating mobile plant equipment, including Front-End Loaders and dumpers.
• Loading plant feed materials and supporting mineral movement across the site.
• Completing daily inspection records and maintaining accurate documentation.
• Reporting plant defects, faults, and maintenance requirements promptly.
• Carrying out routine maintenance activities within your level of competence.
• Supporting refuelling, greasing, and cleaning activities on plant and equipment.
• Operating equipment in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner.
• Contributing to a safe working environment by identifying and reporting hazards and near misses.
• You may also support nearby Heidelberg Materials sites when required, providing variety and opportunities to broaden your experience.
