Job description

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Plant Maintenance Technician to join an established family business providing planting and maintenance services to commercial clients across the Midlands.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is genuinely passionate about plants and horticulture, enjoys working independently and is confident building positive relationships with clients.

You'll manage a planned three-week rota, travelling to commercial client sites across the Midlands to care for and maintain indoor planting, ensuring plants remain healthy, attractive and presented to a high standard.

This is also a very client-facing position. Many clients operate within professional corporate environments, including the finance and legal sectors, so we're looking for someone who is not only knowledgeable about plants but also personable, presentable and confident communicating with people at all levels.

You'll largely manage your own working day and client visits, so reliability, organisation and the ability to work independently are equally important.

A company van is provided for the role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Visit commercial client sites across the Midlands in line with a planned three-week maintenance rota
  • Water, feed, clean and prune indoor plants
  • Monitor plants for pests, disease and other plant health issues, taking appropriate action where required
  • Ensure plants and displays are maintained to a consistently high standard
  • Take pride in the appearance and presentation of plants across client sites
  • Build positive, professional relationships with clients
  • Respond confidently and professionally to client queries
  • Represent the business to a high standard while working on client premises
  • Work independently and manage your daily schedule effectively
  • Use a tablet to follow schedules and record completed work
  • Attend a Monday morning meeting in Leeds and replenish stock for the company van
Requirements
  • A horticultural qualification such as RHS Level 1, 2 or 3, or an equivalent qualification
  • Ideally at least two years' practical horticultural experience
  • A genuine passion for plants and horticulture
  • Good practical plant knowledge and a strong interest in plant health and care
  • Confident, personable and professional when dealing with clients
  • Comfortable communicating with people at all levels within professional working environments
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Confident working independently and managing a mobile schedule
  • Comfortable using a tablet for day-to-day scheduling and reporting
  • Flexible around working hours when required by client sites
Skills & Qualities
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about plants and horticulture
  • Friendly, personable and approachable
  • Strong client-facing skills
  • Professional and presentable
  • Good practical plant knowledge
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Organised with good time management
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Proactive when identifying plant health or maintenance issues
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to client requirements
Working Hours

The usual working hours are 7.00am to 4.00pm, with a 30-minute break. Some client sites require a 6.00am start, and finish times may vary depending on the work scheduled for that day, so some flexibility is required.

Location

This is a mobile Midlands role, ideally suited to someone based around Nottingham, Leicester or along the M1 corridor. Travel between commercial client sites will form a significant part of the position, with a company van provided.

The successful candidate will also attend a Monday morning meeting in Leeds, where stock for the van will be replenished.

What's On Offer
  • Circa £30,000 per annum
  • Some salary flexibility for a more experienced candidate
  • Permanent, full-time position
  • Company van provided
  • Planned three-week maintenance rota
  • Varied commercial client sites
  • Independent mobile working
  • Opportunity to use and develop your horticultural knowledge
  • Opportunity to join an established family business
