Jarvie Plant in Cowdenbeath, Scotland is seeking an experienced Plant Fitter to service and repair a wide fleet of heavy equipment in our busy workshop. You will diagnose faults, carry out routine servicing, and ensure machines are safe and ready for hire across diverse projects.

You will apply your mechanical, hydraulic or electrical expertise to minimise downtime, support customers, and maintain our high standards of reliability and service quality.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of heavy plant systems and proven industry experience.
• Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair faults on heavy plant equipment (excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, generators).
• Carry out routine servicing, inspections and maintenance to keep machines safe and efficient.
• Identify potential issues early to prevent downtime and costly breakdowns.
• Perform hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and pneumatic fault-finding and repairs.
• Complete accurate service reports and parts records with up-to-date documentation.
• Work independently and as part of a team; support depot colleagues during breakdowns.

Are you an experienced Plant Fitter with a passion for heavy machinery? We’re looking for skilled Plant Engineers to join our dynamic Plant Operations Division. In this hands‑on workshop based role, you’ll be instrumental in maintaining and servicing our extensive Plant Hire fleet ensuring reliability and performance across a wide range of projects.

How This Role Supports the Delivery of Hire Solutions

As a Plant Fitter, your expertise is central to keeping our fleet hire‑ready and performing at its best. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring our customers receive dependable, high quality equipment that meets their needs on time, every time. By proactively identifying and resolving issues, you’ll minimise downtime, maintain service reliability, and contribute directly to the success of our hire operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair faults on a wide range of heavy plant equipment, including excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, and generators
• Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and maintenance, ensuring all machines are operating safely and efficiently
• Identify potential issues early, using your mechanical knowledge to prevent downtime and reduce costly breakdowns
• Perform hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic fault‑finding and repairs
• Complete accurate service reports and parts records, maintaining up‑to‑date documentation for all work carried out
• Work both independently and as part of a team, responding quickly to breakdowns and supporting colleagues across the depot
• Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, ensuring safe working practices at all times
• Liaise with depot management and customers, providing clear updates on equipment status and repair timelines
• Maintain high workshop and machinery standards, ensuring tools and equipment are kept in good condition
• Represent Jarvie Plant professionally, contributing to high levels of customer satisfaction and service quality

N.B. Plant Fitters are expected to supply their own basic hand tools. Jarvie Plant will provide all necessary specialist tools, PPE, and branded workwear.
