Job summary

The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) Oxford is seeking a Laboratory Technician focused on Plant Cell Culture to perform hands-on work in plant tissue and cell culture within the Plant Biology Institute. You will support culture initiation, maintenance, sampling and downstream analyses as part of a dynamic, collaborative team.

Ideal candidates will have a background in plant biology or related fields and practical aseptic techniques, with a commitment to accurate record-keeping and safety in

Qualifications

• BSc, HNC/HND in plant biology or related field; practical experience can supplement.
• Practical experience in plant tissue culture or plant cell culture.
• Familiarity with aseptic techniques, sterile media prep and safe disposal of waste.
• Able to follow SOPs and escalate issues like contamination, poor culture growth or equipment faults.
• Good numerical and IT skills to record data and manage samples.

Responsibilities

• Support and execute plant tissue and cell culture experiments as planned by the Plant Cell Culture Lead.
• Prepare sterile media, reagents and consumables; initiate, maintain and monitor aseptic cultures.
• Document culture history, observations and results in notebooks or ELN; ensure traceability.
• Maintain clean, organized lab spaces and comply with safety procedures.
• Collaborate with scientists and automation staff to support cell culture activities across the team.
