Job summary

Singular: Building Brilliant Biotechs in York is seeking a Laboratory Technician to contribute to plant biotechnology and genetic engineering projects. This role focuses on hands-on bench work and generating high-quality data.

You will join an ambitious, collaborative R&D team and gain experience across plant molecular biology, tissue culture, transformation, and crop research programs, with opportunities to develop practical skills in a fast-paced biotech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in plant science, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, or related field.
• Hands-on lab experience from academic research, placements, or industry.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, cloning, genotyping.
• Experience with plant tissue culture, plant biology, or growth-based research.
• Strong organization and accurate data recording skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform plant tissue culture, propagation, transformation, and growth activities to support development of novel crop traits.
• Apply molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, genotyping, sequencing, bacterial culture, and sample preparation.
• Maintain accurate experimental records, analyze and communicate data, and contribute to lab organisation, safety practices, and protocol optimisation.
