Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a Planning Policy Officer to support the development and implementation of the Local Development Plan in Barry.

You will work within the Planning Policy team, liaising with developers and public bodies, progressing to RTPI membership and delivering high-quality planning policy advice.

The role offers a pathway to professional accreditation and a commitment to diverse and quality community planning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in planning with at least 1 year of practice.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Wales Development Plan system and policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.
  • Good organisational and partnership-building skills.
  • Planning degree recognized by RTPI leading to membership.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work in a team.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities policy.
  • Computer literate with office software and GIS.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Planning Policy team with tasks related to the Development Plan.
  • Assist with policy research and compilation of SPG evidence.
  • Progress to Grade 8 by achieving RTPI membership or equivalent qualification.
  • Work to agreed deadlines and deliver high-quality planning advice.
