The Role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Development Management team as a Planning Officer.
There’s plenty happening in Tameside. With some of the largest development pockets of land in the Greater Manchester area, Tameside has a number of significant growth projects, including the 2,000+ home Godley Green Garden Village, Ashton Moss employment site with capacity to deliver 1 million sq ft of commercial floorspace, the St Petersfield mixed-use regeneration scheme, and other significant projects. The Council has recently established a Strategic Growth Unit to focus on delivering major projects that will boost the borough’s economy.
The development management team plays an integral role in supporting this growth and ensuring developments are well-placed. You will provide pre-application advice and manage a caseload of planning applications, including other types such as prior approvals, adverts, and lawful development certificates.
This role offers opportunities for personal development, starting with minor applications and progressing to more major, high-profile schemes. We support your professional journey as a town planner, with supervision and training to help you achieve your ambitions.
About You:
You will have excellent communication skills for liaising with Elected Members, applicants/agents, and internal and external teams, providing advice and assistance. You will also support Assistant Planning Officers and colleagues to develop their skills. Experience in a planning team, whether in public or private practice, is beneficial but not essential.
In return, we offer a chance to develop your career in town planning, with a permanent position, competitive salary, further training, and support towards RTPI membership.
Tameside Council is an inclusive employer and welcomes applications from all community sections, including those seeking flexible working arrangements.
