Salary: Grade H. Scale 29 - £38,626 to Scale 34 - £43,693 with a professional bar at SCP 31 £40,476**

Hours Per Week: 36hours

Base Location: Tameside One, Ashton-under-Lyne

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Development Management team as a Planning Officer.

There’s plenty happening in Tameside. With some of the largest development pockets of land in the Greater Manchester area, Tameside has a has a number of significant growth projects that are being taken forward. These include the 2,000+ home Godley Green Garden Village, Ashton Moss employment site with capacity to deliver 1 million sq ft of commercial floorspace, the St Petersfield mixed use regeneration scheme and other significant mixed use regeneration projects in Tameside’s 9 towns. The Council has recently established a Strategic Growth Unit to provide a focus on the delivery of major projects which will boost the economic performance of the Borough.

The development management team has in integral role in supporting this growth and ensuring that the right developments are in the right places. You will be a key part of the team providing pre-application advice and managing a caseload of planning applications alongside other forms of applications including prior approvals, adverts, and lawful development certificates.

This role will support your personal development, ranging from the consideration of minor applications initially and then the opportunity to develop experience on more major applications for high profile schemes. We want to support you on your professional journey as a town planner. You will be supported by supervision and training to achieve your ambitions.

About You

You will have excellent communication skills which you will use when liaising with Elected Members, applicants/agents, and other internal and external teams to provide advice and assistance as required. You will also provide support to Assistant Planning Officers and colleagues within the team to help develop their planning skills and expertise. Experience of working in a planning team in public or private practice is beneficial but not essential.
