Job summary

Gold Group are seeking an experienced Planning Manager for a major construction project in Derby. The role combines on-site collaboration with remote working to manage detailed programmes using Primavera P6 and provide clear progress reporting.

You will work with the project delivery team, manage risks, and support key decisions to ensure the delivery of a complex, high-profile scheme, with NEC familiarity preferred and a strong focus on planning excellence.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Planning Manager or Senior Planner on UK main contracting projects.
• Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 and detailed project sequencing.
• Strong understanding of programme management and project controls.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach to planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and programming activities for a major construction project.
• Develop, maintain and manage detailed project programmes using Primavera P6.
• Monitor progress against programme, identifying delays and mitigation strategies.
• Produce regular progress reports, programme updates and look-ahead schedules.
• Work closely with project managers, commercial teams and site management to ensure programme objectives are achieved.
• Support change management and programme impact assessments.
• Attend planning, progress and client meetings, providing expert planning advice.
• Promote planning best practice throughout the project and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Salary: up to circa £100,000 + car allowance + package

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Manager to join one of the UK's leading main contractors on a major construction project based in Derby.

The Role

As Planning Manager, you will take responsibility for overseeing the planning function on a major construction project, ensuring robust programme management throughout the project lifecycle.

Working closely with the project delivery team, you will develop, manage and monitor detailed construction programmes using Primavera P6, providing accurate progress reporting, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting key project decisions to ensure successful delivery.

This is a hybrid position, with approximately three days per week on site in Derby and the remainder working remotely, offering an excellent balance between site collaboration and flexible working.

• Proven experience as a Planning Manager or Senior Planner within a UK main contracting environment.
• Excellent site-based planning experience on major construction projects.
• Advanced knowledge and practical experience using Primavera P6.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, programme management and project controls.
• Ideally, experience working under NEC contracts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach to planning and project delivery.
