Job description

Job Description

Newmark's Planning and Development team is one of the UK's largest fully integrated planning and development advisory teams, with over 120 professionals including more than 70 planning consultants and 45 surveyors. The team advises leading UK and international owners, developers, investors, and occupiers on planning transactions, development appraisal, and strategic advice across offices, residential, mixed-use, retail, and cultural schemes throughout London and the UK.

You'll be joining a team working on some of London's most high-profile schemes, giving you broad exposure to major planning applications, strategic regeneration projects, and a real chance to develop into a chartered town planner.

Programme Overview

Newmark’s graduate planning programme is the perfect way to kickstart your career in town planning and development consultancy. You’ll gain hands‑on experience across live planning projects, work with senior chartered town planners, and develop the skills and competencies needed to achieve your Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) status through the Royal Town Planning Institute's accredited routes.

Why Join Newmark?
  • Structured, mentored path to qualification - You'll work towards Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) status with dedicated mentors, exposure across project types, and hands‑on learning experiences designed to build technical capability from day one.
  • Real responsibility, not just training - The programme is built around projects that challenge and inspire, with the autonomy to take initiative and the accountability to own your work - paired with regular 1:1 check-ins so you're never navigating it alone.
  • Global platform, local grounding - Based in our London West End office, you'll be part of one of the UK's largest integrated Planning and Development teams, with on‑the‑ground knowledge of Central London's planning environment.
  • High‑profile project exposure - Newmark's Planning and Development team advises on major London schemes, including strategic regeneration and master planning projects, so joining now means exposure to prestigious, high‑impact work from an early stage.
Responsibilities
  • Conducting site visits and appraisals, and supporting pre‑application and due diligence advice on development sites
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications, representations, and supporting planning statements
  • Researching and analysing national, regional, and local planning policy to support advice on development proposals
  • Drafting sections of planning statements, appraisals, and client reports for senior review
  • Liaising with clients, local planning authorities, architects, and other professionals as part of multidisciplinary project teams
  • Maintaining accurate records and project data to support the wider Planning and Development team's pipeline
  • Working towards RTPI chartership requirements - logging structured training and experience, and meeting regularly with a designated mentor
  • Gradually taking on more client‑facing responsibility as competency and confidence build across projects
Who We’re looking for
  • Ambition and drive to excel, with a clear commitment to working towards Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) status
  • Strong analytical and research skills, comfortable working with planning policy, data, and development appraisals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Commercial curiosity - an interest in London's planning environment and development landscape, and how policy and politics shape decision‑making
  • Initiative and accountability - the confidence to take ownership of tasks while knowing when to ask for guidance
