Overview
Build a sustainable tomorrow with BAM UK & Ireland as we recruit an experienced Planning Engineer for our Energy Networks team in Scotland. You will play a key role in delivering large civil engineering projects that provide critical infrastructure for future renewable developments across Scotland. Projects are located near Inverness‑shire, with initial work based in Inverness or Kilsyth before moving to site for project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed programmes in Primavera P6 from first principles, including resource loading.
- Integrate and manage sub‑contractor and supplier programmes with our own.
- Assimilate and interpret information from tender and project documentation.
- Translate civil construction techniques into working programmes.
- Coordinate with estimators and commercial teams on all programme aspects.
- Compile concise narratives, phasing, reports and supporting documents for quality submissions for tenders and projects.
- Take ownership of the programme to drive project delivery.
- Utilise planning techniques and tools to communicate the programme effectively.
- Communicate programme information, risk and commercial issues to operational teams in various formats.
- Support collaborative planning workshops with clients, operational teams and subcontractors.
- Update and monitor project progress, compile reports against project and contract requirements.
- Introduce and analyse changes in programmes and support the commercial teams.
- Evaluate supply chain and subcontract programmes.
- Comply with business processes and systems.
- Maintain awareness of latest construction techniques.
Qualifications
- Experience delivering programmes under NEC contracts is preferable.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering contracting, with the ability to manage your workload and support Senior Planning Engineers and the Framework Lead Planner.
- Suitable for an experienced Sub‑Agent seeking a change.
- A qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction to HND level or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
- Competency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Excel, Power BI, etc.
- Demonstrable ability to develop, own and drive programmes.
- Strong communication skills with all parties.
- Comfortable presenting and client‑facing situations.
- Experience working closely with site construction teams and understanding clients’ programme requirements.
- Logical thinking and structured working style.
- Ability to work within challenging timescales.
- Experience producing construction or project control information in Excel and Power BI is an advantage.
- Experience with tenders is an advantage.
- Strong commercial and contractual acumen, with a track record of change management within NEC contracts.
