Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a driven Section Engineer to join our Inverness-based project team. You will lead site engineering activities, drive safety and quality, and collaborate with foremen, designers and the client to deliver major civil works that shape Scotland’s renewable energy future.

You will produce 4-week programmes, manage daily diaries and risk assessments, and ensure records and testing are properly documented, while maintaining strong relationships across the supply chain.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent NVQ Level
  • CSCS Level for supervisory/manager role
  • SSSTS certification
  • ICE Technician or Incorporated (preferred) level
  • Buildings and FRC experience desirable

Responsibilities

  • Set a high personal example of safety and environmental behaviour.
  • Communicate with foremen and gangers to ensure full understanding of information provided.
  • Confirm in writing verbal instructions from client/designer/RE staff and maintain records of resources for additional works.
  • Arrange formal checking of setting out and ensure check request forms are completed.
  • Ensure survey book standards and daily diaries are maintained by engineers.
  • Ensure inspection and test plans are completed and digitally recorded.
  • Prepare 4 weekly programmes with the section foreman and monitor progress.
  • Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for control of works.
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary.
  • Carry out material take-off and requisitions as requested by sub agent/agent.
  • Ensure delivery tickets are cost-coded and processed by finance.
  • Ensure testing/sampling of materials is carried out as required by spec.
  • Supervise chainperson, assistants and site engineers.
  • Address unsafe work conditions and non-compliance promptly.
  • Maintain good relations with client/designer/RE and supply chain.
  • Request missing information and ensure 3D drawings/spec documents are complete

Education

As a Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Set a high personal example of safety and environmental behaviour.

  • Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed and digitally recorded.
  • Prepare 4 weekly programmes in conjunction with the section foreman.
  • Monitor the 4-week programme, mark up progress for review at the weekly site review meeting.
  • Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
  • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary.
  • Carry out material take off and requisitions as requested by the sub agent/agent.
  • Ensure all delivery tickets are cost‑coded and passed to finance team for processing.
  • Ensure that testing/sampling of materials is carried out as required by the specification.
  • Supervise chainperson, assistant and site engineers.
  • Monitor the work to ensure that any unsafe work conditions and non‑compliance with company policies and procedures are promptly remedied.
  • Maintain good working relations with client/designer / RE, together with our supply chain.
  • Ensure that the 3D information drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for the construction of the works, and formally request any missing information.
What do you bring to the role?
  • Degree, HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent NVQ Level
  • CSCS Level - Academically or Professionally Qualified Person/Supervisory/Manager
  • SSSTS
The Following Are Desirable Requirements
  • Successful experience at site engineer level
  • Qualified to ICE Technician or Incorporated (preferred) level or equivalent
  • Buildings and FRC experience are desireable
