Job summary

SCS Railways is seeking a Planning Engineer to support the Senior Planning Engineer/Planning Manager in developing and monitoring the construction programme for tunnelling works near North Acton. The role aligns with HS2 requirements and SCS planning standards to ensure a safe, cost-efficient programme with critical access dates.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or an appropriate professional qualification.
  • Basic understanding of administering NEC form of Contracts.
  • Prior experience in civil engineering projects and relevant construction delivery background, tunnelling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Asset structures, Planning Standards, WBS and Planning processes in a BIM environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development of Asset Structure, WBS, calendars and dates aligned with CBS and Employer`s Data Dictionary.
  • Develop material & resource loaded construction programmes to meet milestones.
  • Ensure construction programme complies with Employer’s Planning requirements, contract data and works information.
  • Identify programme risks and mitigate through development of mitigation measures.
  • Interface with BIM team, design, estimation and construction execution teams.
  • Integrate construction programme into BIM model and monitor progress.

Planning Engineer
Job Introduction

Assist the Senior Planning Engineer/Planning Manager to develop and monitor the construction programme, ensuring compliance with the SCS planning standards and HS2 requirements to provide a safe, efficient and cost-effective programme meeting all required access dates, milestones and key dates. Reporting to the Planning Manager. More specifically, this role will be within the SCL tunnels team based in North Acton, where SCS are due to re-commence tunnel mining, sprayed concrete lining and secondary lining works whilst breaking into the HS2 Old Oak Common Station box structure.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist the Senior Planning Engineer/Planning Manager in development of the Asset Structure, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), calendars and dates to be used by SCS, aligned with the Cost Break Down Structure (CBS) and Employer`s Data Dictionary.
  • Help to develop material & resource loaded construction programmes in accordance to the required delivery milestones.
  • Ensuring the Construction programme meets all required access dates, milestones and key dates in compliance with the Employer’s Planning requirements, contract data and works information.
  • Contribute to assessment of programme risks and programme risk analysis, including development and implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Interfacing with other functional teams including, but not limited to: BIM Team, design team, estimation and construction execution.
  • Adhering to BIM team requirements and integration of the construction programme into the BIM model.
  • Progress monitoring and regular updating of the construction programme during Stage Two, including forecasting of potential problem areas and proposing mitigation measures to the Project Manager.
  • Interface control meetings with other assets along the route of the tunnel.
  • Cooperation with the Project Controls Manager, Reporting Manager and Change Management in all related construction programme matters.
  • Develop monitoring KPIs against the project baselines and track weekly quantity performance.
  • Appraisal, review and assessment of supply chain programmes and inclusion in main programme as required.
  • Record as-built data of planned versus actual productivity rates.
  • Understand and advise on critical paths to Key Dates, Sectional Completion Dates and other key project milestone dates.
  • Develop Summary schedules and provide extracts from P6 as requested.
  • Helping to liaise with the client’s construction planning team, stakeholders and with other works packages to communicate the SCS Construction Planning approach and to ensure sharing of best practice, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Pursuing excellence and continuous improvement of the SCS construction planning approach, modification of standard processes and procedures for effective and continuously improvement.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or an appropriate professional qualification
  • Basic understanding of administering NEC form of Contracts.
  • Prior experience in civil engineering projects and relevant construction delivery background. Ideally prior experience in tunnelling specifically sprayed concrete lining construction.
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of Asset structures, Planning Standards, WBS and Planning processes in a BIM environment.
  • Competence in Primavera P6
  • Knowledge of Safety, Environment and Risk Management
  • Proactive approach and strong collaborative and communication skills
