Job summary

Bassetlaw District Council is seeking a Planning Enforcement Officer to deliver a proactive enforcement service across the District. You will manage a caseload, assess breaches against policy and legislation, and work within the Development Team to achieve positive outcomes for local communities.

The role requires strong knowledge of planning law, enforcement best practice, and the ability to operate in a politically sensitive environment.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of planning law and enforcement best practice.
• Experience with investigation procedures and evidence gathering.
• Ability to manage confidential information and operate in a politically sensitive environment.

Responsibilities

• Investigate planning enforcement complaints and breaches of planning control.
• Conduct site visits, gather evidence, and prepare recommendations.
• Prepare and serve statutory notices and monitor compliance.
• Support prosecutions, planning appeals, and court appearances as needed.
• Negotiate outcomes with applicants, agents and residents.
• Support and mentor junior officers where appropriate.
