Ecologist (Interim) - Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council

HAYS is delighted to be working with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to recruit a dedicated and experienced Interim Ecologist, focusing on Development, to join their Economy and Infrastructure Directorate. This role is crucial for coordinating and delivering various ecology projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards. If you are passionate about ecology and possess the required skills and experience, we would love to hear from you.

This role offers up to £450 per day and is primarily remote, with some site visits expected; candidates with a driving license are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide specialist, technical, and professional advice on ecological issues.
  2. Conduct ecological surveys and prepare comprehensive reports.
  3. Liaise with statutory bodies, NGOs, and other relevant organisations to protect and enhance nature conservation sites and landscapes.
  4. Support the Council’s statutory duties related to planning and the environment.
  5. Promote environmental education and community involvement in biodiversity activities.
  6. Manage and improve the River Cole Valley through the Project Kingfisher Partnership.
  7. Coordinate practical conservation volunteer programs.
  8. Prepare and present reports; participate in public consultations.
  9. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and statutory legislation.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. Degree-level qualification in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent.
  2. Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
  3. Practical experience in ecology, including field survey techniques and habitat management.
  4. Good knowledge of British ecology, conservation priorities, and the planning system.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with stakeholder engagement ability.
  6. Experience managing local government or public sector projects, including ESF or ERDF funded initiatives.
  7. Advanced understanding of relevant policies, procedures, and legislation.
