Planning and Highways Solicitor

Southeast Local Authority
Rate: £50-£60 per hour - Negotiable DOE
Contract: 3-6 months - with view to extend

Remote Working

We are seeking a dynamic and solution-focused Planning and Highways Solicitor to join a local authority in the southeast region. In this team, you will manage a varied and demanding personal caseload while also taking a leadership role within the wider legal team. You will also provide expert legal advice to council officers, elected members, and committees, supporting a wide array of service areas and contributing directly to the strategic goals of the authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on complex legal cases, offering innovative and practical solutions.
  • Contribute to policy development and strategic planning.
  • Represent the Council in courts, tribunals, committees, and formal proceedings.
  • Support the reduction in external legal spend by delivering in-house expertise and assisting in the oversight of legal budgets, ensuring effective use of resources.

Key Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX eligible to practise in England and Wales with a current practising certificate.
  • You will bring significant post-qualification experience, ideally including advocacy, and a strong track record in managing complex legal matters within a local government or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience managing legal staff and/or contributing to legal service delivery at a strategic level.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and drafting abilities.
