Planner
Location: Peterborough, with regular travel across the Anglian Water region
Sector: Civil Engineering | Water Infrastructure | Major Project
Behind every successful infrastructure project is a well-developed plan, a team working towards a common goal and the expertise to turn complex challenges into successful delivery.
Are you a talented Planner looking for your next career move?
Would you like to join our growing team and support the delivery of major water infrastructure projects for our client, Anglian Water, through its Major Projects Framework?
This is an exciting opportunity to work on essential infrastructure that supports communities, protects the environment and helps meet the needs of future generations. You'll play a key role in shaping project programmes, working alongside experienced project and construction teams, and helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Whether you're looking to build on your existing planning experience or take the next step in your career, you'll have the opportunity to develop your expertise, contribute ideas and make a tangible impact on projects that matter.

What you'll be doing

As a Planner, you'll work closely with Project Managers, construction teams, commercial colleagues, designers and other stakeholders to develop and maintain robust programmes that support successful project delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, maintaining and updating project programmes from tender and pre-construction through to construction, commissioning and project close-out.
  • Working with project teams to understand construction methodologies, sequencing, resource requirements and delivery constraints.
  • Monitoring progress against agreed programmes, identifying potential delays and highlighting opportunities to improve performance.
  • Supporting the identification and assessment of programme risks, opportunities, dependencies and critical-path activities.
  • Preparing clear, accurate and timely programme reports to support project reviews, forecasting and decision-making.
  • Working with site teams to validate progress and ensure programmes reflect actual site conditions.
  • Supporting tender submissions, project schedules and planning documentation.
  • Contributing to project controls, change management and the assessment of programme impacts arising from changes to scope or delivery requirements.
  • Building effective relationships with clients, supply chain partners and internal teams to maintain alignment on programme objectives.
  • Promoting a proactive approach to planning, continuous improvement, health and safety, and quality.
What the team are looking for:

Are you someone who is organised, analytical and collaborative, with a genuine interest in how effective planning drives successful project delivery?

You'll ideally have:
  • Experience in a planning role within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities.
  • Experience developing and managing programmes across different stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 or Asta Powerproject, alongside Microsoft Excel.
  • A sound understanding of construction methodologies, activity sequencing, programme logic and project delivery.
  • The ability to analyse complex information, identify emerging issues and communicate findings clearly.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work across multiple disciplines.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project controls, progress reporting and change management.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A commitment to safe working, quality, teamwork and continuous improvement.

You don't need to meet every requirement to be considered. If you have relevant planning experience, a willingness to learn and the drive to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
