Job summary

pxFairport (pxF) is seeking a Planner to join the Projects team in Sunderland. You will help create and maintain detailed project schedules, support planning sessions with Project Managers, and ensure baselines and change control are followed.

The role involves on-the-job training, mentoring and twice-yearly development reviews to support your growth within a growing project delivery business. Experience with Primavera P6 or MS Project and strong Excel skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience in planning, project controls or project support in construction/engineering.
  • Knowledge of planning principles including dependencies, baselines and critical path.
  • Proficient with Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project for schedules.
  • Competent with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Able to interpret project information and verify data accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning sessions with Project Managers to define deliverables and schedule logic.
  • Create, maintain and update detailed project schedules per standards.
  • Gather progress updates, durations, resources and information from stakeholders.
  • Resource-load schedules and flag conflicts or over/under-utilisation.
  • Review schedule logic and critical paths, raise gaps for resolution.
  • Update progress and support weekly/monthly schedule reviews.
  • Produce planning reports including look-ahead plans and baselines.

The Opportunity

We are now recruiting for a Planner.

You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support planning sessions and workshops with Project Managers to identify key deliverables, develop the work breakdown structure and agree appropriate schedule logic.
  • Create, maintain and update detailed project schedules in line with agreed planning standards and project requirements.
  • Work with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Department Managers and other stakeholders to obtain progress updates, activity durations, resource requirements and supporting information.
  • Resource-load schedules using the shared resource pool and highlight potential resource conflicts, over-allocation or under-utilisation to the Planning Manager.
  • Review schedule logic, constraints, critical and near-critical paths, raising gaps or inconsistencies for resolution.
  • Update project progress accurately and support weekly and monthly schedule reviews, ensuring slippage, risks and emerging issues are clearly identified.
  • Produce planning reports and schedule outputs, including look-ahead plans, milestone reports, S-curves and baseline variance information.
  • Support the identification of corrective actions and recovery options where progress is behind plan.
  • Maintain schedule baselines and assist with re-baselining following approved scope changes, ensuring change control requirements are followed.
  • Prepare tailored schedule updates and planning information for project reports, client reports, meetings and presentations.
  • Keep planning records, assumptions and supporting data accurate, current and auditable.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience in a planning, project controls or project support role, ideally within a construction or engineering environment.
  • Working knowledge of planning principles, including work breakdown structures, dependencies, logic, baselines, progress measurement and critical path.
  • Experience of using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project to create and maintain project schedules.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Able to interpret project information and identify where schedule data, logic or progress may not be accurate or complete.
