Job summary

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure in the North West / North Wales region seeks a motivated Planner to support a National Grid programme, with hybrid work and site visits. You will develop detailed programmes, align with project delivery, and drive NEC3/NEC4 reporting on large-scale infrastructure schemes.

You will work with experienced teams across multiple sites, applying EVM principles and Primavera P6/Aphex and GIS tools where applicable.

Qualifications

• Experience in planning roles within infrastructure or energy sectors.
• Experience on National Grid, HV electrical, or substation projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and reporting requirements.
• Proven programme management, progress tracking, and reporting abilities.
• Familiar with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and update detailed project programmes across three sites.
• Interface daily between planning and project delivery teams.
• Collaborate with project managers and senior planners for programme alignment.
• Lead and contribute to weekly planning and contract review meetings.
• Produce and manage NEC3/NEC4 contract-compliant reports.
• Monitor progress with earned value tracking and status reporting.
• Develop site planning schedules and phasing plans.
• Communicate programme status to stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Work under supervision while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Planner to join our team on the PTNO / PTC1 National Grid project, supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of high-profile infrastructure schemes.

This role is ideal for someone in the North West or North Wales who is able to work on a hybrid basis with site visits.

Role Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of a large-scale £80m infrastructure programme across three geographical sites.
• Develop, maintain, and update detailed project programmes to reflect client requirements and programme changes.
• Function as the day-to-day interface between planning and project delivery teams.
• Collaborate closely with project managers and senior planners to ensure accurate programme alignment.
• Lead and contribute to weekly planning and contract review meetings.
• Produce and manage NEC3/NEC4 contract-compliant reports.
• Monitor, capture, and report project progress, including earned value (EVM) tracking.
• Develop and maintain site planning schedules and phasing plans.
• Ensure accurate and timely communication of programme status to stakeholders.
• Work under the guidance of senior planning professionals while taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

• Proven experience in a planning role within infrastructure or energy sectors
• Experience working on National Grid, HV electrical, or substation projects is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts and associated reporting requirements
• Demonstrated ability in programme management, progress tracking, and reporting.
• Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles
• Proficiency in planning and reporting tools, including:
• Primavera P6
• Aphex
• GIS tools (desirable)
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with ability to liaise across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-site, fast-paced delivery environment.
• Comfortable working under supervision while demonstrating initiative and accountability.
• Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management)

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground.
