Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is offering a 12-month placement across design and construction teams. You will gain exposure to real-world projects under the United Utilities framework, with travel across the region required.

This is an excellent entry point to develop commercial, cost-management and NEC-based contract skills while supporting live projects that benefit communities. The role is ideal for undergraduates in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering who want hands-on experience, mentorship

Qualifications

• Must be an undergraduate student in a full-time degree programme (Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or related field).
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
• Strong communication skills with team members and stakeholders.
• Proactive, eager to learn and develop commercially aware skills.
• Full UK driving licence required to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior QS with commercial and cost management tasks, including paying subcontractors, raising notices, and cost-to-complete activities.
• Maintain proper records and final accounts for audits and cost assurance.
• Develop contract management knowledge, NEC principles and change control processes.
• Support the team in promoting quality, cost efficiency, and value across projects.

About The Role

Our placements last for 12 months, working across both design and construction teams, to offer the broadest exposure to the industry, working on real-world projects that make a difference in communities. It’s a great chance to get involved with live projects while gaining experience relevant to your degree.This role is working for our United Utilities framework, so travel around their region is required.

What You’ll Do

• Working with your senior QS you will manage all aspects of commercial and cost management of a project including paying subcontractors, raising notices, and completing cost to completes.
• Ensure that proper records, including final accounts, are kept and maintained so financial information for audits and cost assurance is readily available.
• Develop contract management skills, understanding the New Engineering Contract (NEC) and how change control works.
• Promote our quality, cost, and efficiency strategy to ensure everyone is minimising costs and maximising value.

What you'll need
