About The Job

Are you interested in complex piping & layout engineering challenges for heat and power plants?

Vattenfall Customer & Solutions Projects Team develops and implements all of Vattenfall's new-build heating plant projects in conventional and emerging technologies. Our Engineering Department consists of an international team of highly qualified engineers from different disciplines and is responsible for the development and execution of the technical project workstream.

For each project, a team of engineers is selected. This team manages the technical solution development, execution processes and coordinates the installation, commissioning and hand-over of the new plant to the future operator in consultation with stakeholders. The Engineering Department also supports projects with schedule preparation, investment cost estimation, quality management, and standards.

We are looking to recruit a Piping & Layout Engineer for projects based in the UK to support our extensive technical activities.

What will you do?

Your tasks as a Piping & Layout Engineer are varied and crucial for project success. Key responsibilities include:

1. Preparing general arrangement plans, site layout plans, and construction phase plans for district heating plant projects (2D).
2. Preparing plans of underground systems, integrating infrastructural connections (district heating, electricity, fuel, water, waste water), and managing interfaces of different tendering lots.
3. Leading mechanical engineering tasks such as stress calculation verification, corrosion prevention strategies, and piping support design.
4. Participating in tendering and awarding of services related to Piping & Layout.
5. Reviewing 2D and 3D models provided by partners and contractors for quality, constructability, occupational health and safety, fire protection, escape routes, ATEX zoning, ergonomic requirements for operation & maintenance.
6. Supporting quality, site management, commissioning, HSSE, cost, scheduling, and HSSE-in-Design with your expertise.
7. Contributing to the continuous improvement of piping, layout, and mechanical quality standards, and tailoring requirements to specific projects.

Your profile

We seek candidates with:

• UK Level 6 (Bachelors) or Level 7 (Masters) in Mechanical Engineering, or Level 5 HND with relevant experience.
• At least 10 years of experience in engineering, procurement, and construction within industrial sectors like oil & gas, energy, food, pharmaceutical, or chemical industries.
• Proficiency in English, with strong communication skills.
• Robust knowledge and practical experience in piping and layout engineering from industrial projects.
• A proactive attitude with a focus on health & safety and safety in design.
• Experience building relationships between plant operators and contractors.
