Job summary

Anonymous is seeking an experienced pipefitter for long-term engineering work in the South West. You will fabricate, assemble and install pipework from isometrics and drawings to exacting standards.

This PAYE role includes day, night and overtime shifts with a £400 weekly travel and lodge allowance. Marine, defence and heavy engineering experience is essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong pipefitting experience.
  • Experience in marine, defence, dockyard, shipbuilding or heavy engineering environments.
  • Ability to read piping isometrics and engineering drawings.
  • Experience fabricating and installing carbon/ stainless‑steel pipework.
  • Confidence working with valves, flanges and joints.
  • NVQ or Apprenticeship in pipefitting advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble and install pipework systems.
  • Work from piping isometrics, drawings and specifications.
  • Measure, cut, prepare and fit pipe and components.
  • Install valves, flanges, supports and fittings.
  • Carry out pipe alignment and fit-up before welding.
  • Bolt and torque mechanical joints and flange connections.
  • Support pressure testing, leak testing and commissioning.
  • Identify and correct alignment or installation issues.
  • Work with welders, mechanical fitters and production teams.

Location: South West / North Devon
Employment type: Long-term PAYE opportunity

Pay and allowances
  • £24.88 per hour PAYE
  • £37.32 per hour overtime after 40 hours per week
  • £33.09 per hour for night shifts
  • £400 weekly travel and lodge allowance
Estimated gross weekly earnings
  • 45-hour day shift: £1,581.80 per week
  • 67-hour day shift: £2,402.84 per week
  • 45-hour night shift: £1,910.20 per week
  • 67-hour night shift: £2,731.24 per week

The estimated weekly figures include the £400 travel and lodge allowance and are subject to the hours and shifts worked.

We are looking to speak with experienced Pipefitters for upcoming long‑term engineering work in the South West.

This opportunity would suit Pipefitters with experience in marine, defence, dockyard, shipbuilding, ship repair, industrial pipework or heavy engineering environments. The South West has a strong long‑term marine and defence engineering market, including major dockyard and infrastructure activity around Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.

The work is expected to suit experienced tradespeople who are comfortable working on large‑scale engineering programmes where safety, accuracy and quality are essential.

Key duties
  • Fabricating, assembling and installing pipework systems
  • Working from piping isometrics, engineering drawings and specifications
  • Measuring, cutting, preparing and fitting pipe and associated components
  • Installing valves, flanges, supports, brackets and pipe fittings
  • Carrying out pipe alignment and fit‑up before welding
  • Bolting and torquing mechanical joints and flange connections
  • Supporting pressure testing, leak testing and system commissioning
  • Identifying and correcting alignment or installation issues
  • Working closely with welders, mechanical fitters and production teams
  • Following site safety, quality and permit procedures
Experience required
  • Strong pipefitting experience
  • Experience in marine, defence, dockyard, shipbuilding, ship repair or heavy engineering environments
  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics and engineering drawings
  • Experience fabricating and installing carbon steel or stainless‑steel pipework
  • Confidence working with valves, flanges, supports and mechanical joints
  • Experience with flange management or mechanical joint integrity would be beneficial
  • Relevant apprenticeship, NVQ or equivalent trade qualification would be advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team
