Job description

Band 3G, circa £33,821 per annum, plus 13.5% shift allowance, plus benefits

Part/Full Time: Full Time - All roles are available for flexible working, including job sharing and part-time, unless there are legitimate operational or business reasons why this cannot be accommodated.

Thames Valley Police have the vision to be an excellent police service, trusted by all our communities. To achieve this vision and deliver our strategic aims and objectives, we are seeking highly motivated, skilled investigators to join us. This role will be based at Milton Keynes.

You will manage and progress the investigation of criminal offences and other incidents/enquiries, working as an integral part of a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff. Responsibilities include completing investigative actions, maintaining victim and witness confidence, and facilitating successful outcomes. Successful outcomes may require preparing case papers, ensuring file completeness and delivery in accordance with Court deadlines, legislation, and Force policy.

Accountability:

1. Plan, coordinate, and undertake investigations as tasked, utilizing all available techniques and technologies to detect and reduce crime, thereby bringing offenders to justice.
2. Plan and conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and potential suspects to identify further investigative opportunities.
3. Prioritize, analyze, and interpret intelligence/evidence from scenes, using appropriate forensic techniques to optimize detection opportunities.
4. Seize exhibits when required, handling them according to current guidelines and policy.
5. Ensure recording and storage of intelligence to maintain continuity and evidential integrity.
6. Deliver a victim-centered service by engaging with, assessing, and supporting victims to ensure investigations are concluded promptly, in line with the Victims Code.
7. Identify appropriate outcomes upon investigation completion, including Court or out-of-court disposals. Create prosecution files that are evidentially sound, compliant with CPS requirements, and within timescales.
8. Comply with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act during investigations.
9. Attend court hearings as required to give evidence and ensure the welfare of victims and witnesses.
10. Identify threats, harm, opportunities, and risks within crimes, flagging and responding to safeguarding concerns during interactions with the public, in coordination with other departments and agencies.

Skills required to be successful:

1. Willingness and ability to achieve Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) 1 accreditation.
2. Good communication skills, including listening and questioning, with the ability to engage effectively and demonstrate empathy with people from diverse backgrounds, sometimes in confrontational situations.
3. Meticulous attention to detail, logical thinking, and effective information gathering and recording skills.
4. Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze information, assess risks and vulnerabilities, and set priorities.
5. Experience working within a team environment.
6. Understanding of cultural differences and experience working in a diverse environment.
7. Full UK driving licence is essential, as the role requires travel across the Force and flexible working hours, including unsocial hours and lone working safety considerations, which may limit public transport options.
