Job summary

United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory requires an Irradiated Fuel Characterisation Scientist to join its PIE teams. The role involves collecting and analysing data from irradiated fuel examinations, developing measurement and characterisation techniques, and supporting work at Workington or Sellafield.

You will work under supervision to coordinate tasks, deliver high-quality data outputs, and help progress new opportunities in the PIE field with training from expert leads.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a science-based discipline.
  • Experience in data handling, manipulation and analysis in an industrial environment.
  • Proven ability to apply academically acquired knowledge to practical applications.
  • Excellent data-taking skills and aptitude for experimental work.
  • Positive attitude to safety, security and other EHSS&Q requirements.
  • Good communication and team working skills.
  • Positive attitude to learning and development.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (UK residency).
  • British citizen per UK Nationality Act 1981.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical tasks in line with safety, cost, quality, scientific merit and schedule requirements.
  • Directly undertake data-recording tasks and experimental work as required.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with procedures.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to develop experimental approaches and techniques.
  • Contribute to technical and research programmes within an integrated team.
  • Provide advice and guidance on technical issues in their area.
  • Progress opportunities for innovation and technology development in their area.
  • Interpret analytical data to characterise irradiated materials.
  • Assist in transferring historic knowledge to modern platforms through training.
  • Contribute to improving working practices in their own area.
