Job summary

Thermulon, a UK aerogel insulation company, seeks a hands-on Lab Technician to run a 25 L pilot reactor end to end, from reagent prep to dry aerogel powder. You will document batch records and test data, support process engineers, and train newer team members in a small, fast-moving lab environment in London.

You will ensure safety, maintain SOPs, and contribute to process improvements, with focus on yield, consistency and throughput.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating chemical process equipment in lab, pilot or manufacturing settings.
• Experience handling hazardous chemicals under SOPs and COSHH.
• Track record of accurate, diligent batch records and data logging.
• Experience with powder handling (weighing, sieving, transfer) and routine analytical testing.
• Qualification in chemistry or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Run batches end to end from reagent prep to finished dry powder.
• Record process parameters, observations and deviations in real time per SOPs.
• Sieve, weigh, blend, package and label aerogel powder with dust control.
• Perform thermal conductivity and density tests; log results in LIMS.
• Set up, clean and maintain reactor and test instruments; calibrate as needed.
• Track stock, transfers and shipments; keep inventory records updated.
• Train and coach newer technicians; help write/improve SOPs as process matures.
• Support engineers and scientists with trials, troubleshooting and improvements.
