Job summary

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a Staff Nurse on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. You will plan, deliver and evaluate care for Level 3 and HDU patients, supervise staff and participate in prescribed treatments within a 17-bed unit.

You will join a large multidisciplinary team, benefit from a foundation programme with study days and self-rostering, and contribute to family-centred care while developing expertise in critical care nursing.

Qualifications

• NMC registration as a children's nurse with at least one year post-qualifying
• Or NMC registration as an adult nurse with one year in intensive care, A&E or paediatric ward within the last two years
• Significant post-registration experience with acute or chronically sick children

Responsibilities

• Provide a high standard of nursing care to children, young people and their families
• Plan, assess, implement and evaluate care programmes for individual children, supervising other staff in this
• Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment for children and families
• Act as advocate for the child and family, giving information and support and directing them to services
• Supervise and support the ward team so all patients receive appropriate care
• Carry out prescribed treatments and inform the multidisciplinary team of changes in a patient's condition
• Assist in the education and practical training of learners and junior staff, working with their university
• Take part in informal and formal teaching
• Maintain confidentiality around each child's admission and treatment
• Document all patient care accurately within agreed timescales, using Trust-approved documentation meeting standards
