Job summary

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust in Ashton-under-Lyne is seeking a Charge Nurse to join our Psychiatric Intensive Care Team in a purpose-built 10-bedded unit. You will provide clinical leadership and manage ward staff to deliver high-quality care.

The role involves gatekeeping PICU referrals, acting as named nurse, co-producing care plans, supervising safety and policy adherence, and working with the multidisciplinary team to promote least restrictive practice and patient recovery.

Qualifications

• Current nursing registration with NMC.
• Experience in mental health and PICU settings.
• Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership to ward staff.
• Gatekeep for PICU referrals.
• Oversee unit compliance and excellence.
• Act as named nurse for a group of service users.
• Co-produce collaborative care plans and support activities.
• Engage in de-escalation using PMVA techniques.
• Assist in ward safety checks and risk assessments.
• Carry out patient observations and document per policy.
• Administer medications in line with Medicines’ Management Policy and NMC guidance.
• Act as Shift Leader ensuring smooth ward operations and handovers.
• Promote least restrictive practice and report incidents.
