Job description

This job posting is not suitable for qualified physiotherapists.

Physiotherapy is an essential part of rehabilitating patients with spinal cord injuries. Physiotherapy assistants play a vital role by providing administrative and clinical support to physiotherapists and directly participating in patient treatment sessions.

The role involves working with patients post-spinal cord injury during aquatic therapy sessions, offering personal care and support, as well as administrative assistance within the team.

Key qualities required include the ability to care for individuals with disabilities, good verbal communication skills both on the phone and face-to-face, organizational skills to respond to multiple requests, and a sensitive, empathetic approach to patient contact. The successful candidate must be able to follow instructions, provide feedback, and manage the varying demands of patient care and administrative tasks. Manual handling skills are essential, along with competence in assisting with personal care tasks such as dressing and toileting. Prior experience working within a team is also necessary.

Experience in customer care settings is essential, and previous NHS employment is desirable.

The Main Duties of the Job Include:
  • Assisting qualified physiotherapy staff in implementing patient treatment programs
  • Supporting physiotherapy staff in non-clinical tasks within the aquatic therapy environment and occasionally in clinical situations
  • Documenting patient interactions and providing feedback to physiotherapists
  • Providing personal care to spinal cord injury patients to facilitate participation in aquatic therapy

Opportunities for training and development are available through in-service training, appraisal, and mandatory training.
