Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Band 5 Physiotherapist for the Children’s Physiotherapy Service in London. The role is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, providing care across inpatient and outpatient paediatric services, including PICU and acute wards, with a 37.5 hour week.

You will work within the acute physiotherapy team, contributing to patient-centred therapy, education and robust record-keeping, while developing clinical and teaching skills with CPPD opportunities.

Qualifications

• Registered physiotherapist with HCPC and appropriate professional membership.
• Degree in Physiotherapy with an upper second class honours or above.
• Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
• Specialist section membership may be required or advantageous.
• Full registration and ongoing professional development expected.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver a patient-centred therapy service within hospital and community settings.
• Be clinically accountable for all aspects of patient care and documentation.
• Provide education and support to patients and carers as part of therapy.
• Communicate effectively during ward rounds, meetings and case conferences.
• Maintain accurate patient records in line with legal and trust guidelines.
• Collect and report departmental statistics and outcomes.
• Maintain CPPD portfolio and participate in peer support groups.

Job overview

This is an exciting, fixed term contract opportunity within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT) Children’s Physiotherapy Service, which provides a comprehensive service to children’s musculoskeletal outpatient and acute services. The Band 5 post holder will work in the acute physiotherapy team that provides a 7-day 24-hour inpatient service to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Major Trauma, Accident and Emergency, tertiary services for infectious diseases and haematology, and general paediatric wards. The post holder will also manage children and young people with musculoskeletal conditions within an outpatient setting.

Main duties of the job

• To plan and deliver a patient centred therapy service to patients in hospital and in the community.
• To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care.
• To routinely provide advice, education and support to patients and their carers as part of the therapy process. To adopt a patient centred treatment approach in order to support meaningful participation in life roles.
• To demonstrate effective communication skills when attending and contributing to ward rounds, meetings and case conferences relating to caseload.
• To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with the legal requirements, trust guidelines and professional standard of practice.
• To collect, collate and reports statistical information in line with departmental and trust policy.
• To develop clinical and teaching skills via continuous personal and professional development (CPPD), including maintenance of an up to date CPPD portfolio.
• To participate in the Band 5 peer support group.
• Build and sustain professional relationships both as an independent practitioner and collaboratively as a member of the team.
• To share responsibility for ordering, issuing, retrieving and maintaining departmental equipment.
