Job summary

The Elms Surgery in Watford is seeking a Physician Associate to join as a fixed-term maternity cover with potential to extend. The post requires GMC registration and at least three years of post-qualification General Practice experience, plus demonstrable chronic disease and on-going patient management capabilities.

Ideal candidates will manage chronic disease clinics, support acute on-the-day demand, and work under GP supervision to ensure high-quality patient care and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in General Practice.
• Experience running chronic disease clinics.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior clinicians.
• Special interest or skill (e.g. minor illness, urgent care, womens health, elderly care, LD checks, Smear taker).
• Experienced in seeing children.

Responsibilities

• Independent management of acute and routine presentations within agreed scope.
• Management of long terms conditions and chronic diseases (e.g. asthma, diabetes, COPD, hypertension, frailty, dementia, LD).
• Same-day and pre-booked appointments (face-to-face, telephone, and online).
• Requesting and interpreting investigations.
• Developing and reviewing management plans in collaboration with supervising GPs.
• Contributing to clinical decision-making within the MDT.
• Supporting and mentoring less experienced PAs or trainees if required.
• Participation in audits, QI projects, and practice development.
• Accurate and timely clinical documentation using EMIS.

Job summary
A new opportunity has arisen for a Physician Associate to join our practice.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Physician Associate to become part of our clinical team for a initial fixed term of six months to cover maternity with potential to extend. This role is ideally suited to a PA with strong primary care experience, who is confident in assessing and managing undifferentiated presentations. The successful candidate will also have a particular interest and expertise in chronic disease management, working collaboratively under appropriate GP supervision.
Main duties of the job
